NYU Tisch Showcase
Born and raised in Chicago, MIA has been a lover of all things music and performance since she was a toddler, discovering her singing ability at just 5 years old. MIA would go on to do dozens of musical theatre shows and show choirs, but it wasn’t until her big move to NYC in 2015 that she tested her ability to create and not just perform. MIA taught herself how to produce, record, and mix her own music, leading her to eventually release her first ever complete body of work this past May of 2019. At NYU, MIA attended the Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where she devoted herself to perfecting her craft as a vocalist and expanding her musical vocabulary by studying musicology & critical racial studies. Growing up, MIA was surrounded by the sounds of Celia Cruz, Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Frank Sinatra, and Tony Bennett, whose voices would come to life through her academic career at NYU and journey through teaching herself music production. MIA’s sound is influenced by everything she is - from her Jazz, Latin, and Hip-Hop musical roots, to her cultural background as a first-generation Cuban, MIA is a powerhouse of sound and feeling.
Klemntyna
Klemntyna
Klemntyna is a New York-based emerging R&B/Pop artist, born and raised in Warsaw, Poland. Inspired by Michael Jackson and his music at the tender age of 12, she began dancing and taking voice classes, performing live and taking part in various competitions, projects and showcases ever since. In 2017, she enrolled at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering as a Business and Technology Management major. At the end of her freshman year, Klemntyna was offered an admission to NYU Tisch Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, which she had to defer for a year. She subsequently moved to London, where she had the chance to significantly improve her songwriting skills, and collaborate with an LA-based producer, Bruno (whom, interestingly, she have never met before in real life). The internet collaboration resulted in dozens of songs, of which two, Wonders and Halfway Thru, were released as debut singles. Currently based in New York City, Klemntyna is working on new music, as well as her debut EP to be released in Fall 2019. She draws inspiration from R&B, Pop and Jazz music, especially powerhouse female vocalists, such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or Beyonce. Throughout years Klemntyna developed passion for various other music genres, ranging from hip-hop, rap, 80s pop-rock, 90s R&B, soul, future bass and neo-soul. Hence, she identifies her style as a mixture of all of these genres, emphasizing powerful and sweet vocals, personal and at times philosophical/reflective lyrics and fresh sound inspired by old classics and legendary voices.
