Sami Stevens and The Man I Love
Sami Stevens and The Man I Love
Sami Stevens and the Man I Love is “the tenderness you need today” - Stereofox.

Founded in 2015 by bandleader Stevens, the group draws together cohesive, classic RnB style arrangements, impeccable vocal lyricism and phrasing, Joni Mitchell-esque harmony, and intense dynamic range, having you fighting back tears one minute and up on your feet the next. With the Man I Love, Stevens hopes to ride the line with listeners, lovingly challenging them with new sounds and ideas, and drawing them in with undeniable melodies.

With the Autumn 2017 release of their first album, And I'm Right, Sami Stevens and the Man I Love have carved out their rightful place in the NYC RnB scene. And I'm Right (Leesta Vall Records), produced by Somerbridge Music, gives an imaginative, fresh take on old, warm sounds and grooves. Drawing comparison to artists like Emily King, Amy Winehouse and Hiatus Kaiyote, the record weaves through elements of Jazz, Singer-Songwriter music, and Classic RnB. And I'm Right is a window into Stevens' world, telling stories of vulnerability, love, growing pains, and fiercely powerful perseverance.

“And I’m Right” has the mark of maturity and that’s a rare thing to find these days...the lyrics often impress as well with “She Is God” and “Child They Said Was Mine” mixing together Phoebe Snow style lyrical intelligence with a concise emotional impact."" -Bluesbunny

Just entering their touring years, Sami Stevens and the Man I Love has been featured at renowned Brooklyn venue National Sawdust and San Francisco jazz club Black Cat. Stevens has toured internationally with various acts, having played with artists like Jason Moran, Fred Hersch, J.G. Thirwell of Foetus, and ""King of Treme"" Shannon Powell. Currently, the Man I Love includes Bob Edinger on drums, Jed Lingat on bass, Noah MacNeil on keys, and Kazemde George on tenor sax.

Joanna Sternberg
Joanna Sternberg
"Joanna Sternberg is a 28-year-old singer, songwriter, musician and visual artist born/based in New York City. When Joanna was 2, their parents overheard them humming the entire melody to “Oh What A Merry Christmas Day” from Mickey’s Christmas Carol at their passover seder. They sent Joanna to piano lessons when they turned 5. Joanna taught themselves how to play the guitar and electric bass when they were 11. Joanna attended LaGuardia High School of Music and Art. They started studying double bass during their freshman year. Joanna got a full scholarship to Mannes College of Music, and studied classical double bass there for a year and a half. Joanna decided to leave the school and take a year off. During that year they did nothing but stay in their room and draw comics. Joanna has been a freelance musician and visual artist since they were 18-years-old. Joanna finished their double bass performance degree at The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music, where they got a full scholarship. When Joanna was 23, they began writing songs and learning how to sing. At the age of 24 Joanna started singing in public while accompanying themself on different instruments. Today, Joanna continues to write songs, sing, play instruments, and create visual art. Joanna does not like using genres to describe music or art. They also do not like using the word music to describe music, or the word art to describe art.

Stephen James the Artist
Stephen James the Artist
Stephen James is singer and song writer with extraordinary range and depth that transcends genres. Born and raised in Georgetown, Massachusetts, a small town in the suburbs of Boston, the artist dreamed of moving to a bigger city where he could explore self expression. As he matured, music was his escape from the growing pains of adolescence. He knew a bigger city would be more accepting of his big ideas and diverse talent.

Four years ago, the singer moved to Manhattan to pursue a career in music. The metropolis served as an epicenter for networking in the industry with other emerging creatives. Stephen James’s lyrics are pensive yet inviting and have been described as disarmingly meaningful. The singer draws his passion directly from the energy of his audience during live performances which have been sold-out at some of New York City's trending, popular venues.
