Bill Lloyd has been known as both a country artist and as a power-popper. His career as a songwriter and as a recording artist include Foster & Lloyd, the Sky Kings, and his many acclaimed solo albums that blend his melodic power pop sensibility with finely tuned song craft. John Borack of Goldmine Magazine writes: “Working the Long Game, Lloyd’s latest full-length for Texas-based SpyderPop Records, is not only his finest solo collection in nearly 25 years, it’s a solid contender for album of the year in my book. A dozen tracks, each one carefully crafted and melodically stimulating, and a sterling showcase for what can still be done with a solid base of guitars, bass and drums.
Hailing from Fort Worth, Texas, Danny Wilkerson (veteran singer/songwriter/musician) is touring in support of his debut solo album, Wilkerson. Don’t let the deceptively simple album title fool you: Wilkerson’s music is truly an uplifting feast for the ears, brilliant mature power pop veritably exploding with inventive musical and lyrical twists and turns and featuring a boatload of pure pop melodies to die for. Featuring contributions from pop masters Bleu McAuley and Roger Joseph Manning, Jr., Wilkerson was awarded “Album of the Year” by multiple music journalists and magazines including Goldmine, Hooks and Harmony, and Discussions Magazine to name a few. Additionally, scores of critics, bloggers, radio DJs’, and the like around the world included Wilkerson in their “Best of 2018” lists calling it “pure pop bliss” and an “absolute masterpiece.” Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate an evening of fun positive power pop with Wilkerson in an intimate live setting.
Lannie Flowers is a standard bearer for the Power Pop resurgence currently taking hold across the world. Combining diverse influences such as British invasion, punk rock and glam rock, Lannie puts forth guitar driven melodies that are at once fresh yet familiar. He was the chief singer/songwriter in Texas legends, the Pengwins and he has released a slew of solo albums on the Spyderpop label over the last decade that illustrate his gift for writing and recording great pop songs. Lannie has released a new single every month for the last year – all available on SpyderPop.com. His next album, “Home” is due to be released soon.
Slyboots’ unique yet cohesive sound can be attributed to their different tastes, but similar inspirations. There’s overlap in their influences: The Beatles, David Bowie, The Cure and their shared admiration of strong females that have paved the way, e.g., Talking Heads’ Tina Weymouth, multidisciplinary artist Grimes and prolific songwriter Julia Michaels. Their band name came about when Slyboots was the “word of the day” on KG*’s phone. It made the shortlist, and then stuck because they decided the definition “one who is cunning or mischievous in an engaging way” fit their personalities and vibe implicitly. And their dynamic live set embodies this playful misbehavior. There’s a confidence emanating from the stage and a mystique that can only be had when three powerhouse females team up, soar over life’s hurdles, and do what they were born to do.
