Violet
"Violet is Meredith Minogue (singer/songwriter/guitarist) and Jim Barry (songwriter/guitarist/multi instrumentalist). Their sound draws from rock and roll, folk- rock, 70’s singer-songwriters, new wave, country-blues and dream pop. It’s a bit like Buffalo Springfield, Tim Buckley and Gary Numan having a drink with the Pretenders while staring at a Marc Chagall painting.

Based in NYC, Violet has recorded two full length albums, both of which were produced/engineered by Adam Lasus (Helium, Clem Snide, PJ Harvey, Yo La Tengo) at Fireproof Studios. Their debut, ""We Both Know It’s Out There"", includes songs that mix traditional and modern styles effortlessly. Performing Songwriter Magazine called it “one of the best independent releases of 2001”.

Violet’s second CD ""The Last Cathedral"" continues the band’s practice of making music that gracefully shifts genres and moods without feeling unfocused or contrived.

The duo has appeared on CD compilations created by Magnet Magazine, Pop Matters and European record label, Jarmusic’s Coast to Coast, which included tracks by the Cowboy Junkies and Ani DiFranco. Their songs have received airplay on over 150 college radio stations, including NYC’s WFUV.

Over the years, the band has played as an acoustic duo and with a full band at Webster Hall, Knitting Factory (AlterKnit), CMJ, Pete's Candy Store, Arlene's Grocery, Bowery Electric, The Grand Victory, Sidewalk Cafe, Warsaw, Pianos and The Richmond Shepard Theater. They hold an artist in residence at Espresso 77 in Jackson Heights and are currently recording their third album."
