The New Tarot
The New Tarot
The New Tarot is an indie alternative rock band that was born out of the heat of the great cosmic explosion, and seemed to form itself around the spooky and sweet Walker sisters, Monika (vocals/guitar) and Karen (vocals/keyboard), and their dreams to combine Machines, Magick and Music grew with them. Soon enough, they had convinced four amazing musicians to join their cause; Chas Langston (celebrated British drummer), Beth Callen (coolest-ever lead guitarist, who doubles as Slash in Guns n'Roses Cover band), Dave Kahn (bassist who fronts his own prog-rock instrumental band "Treespeaker"), and David Banker (Trombonist who holds several degrees in music and recently served as our human sacrificial offering). Together, the band creates and experiments with human and universal archetypes through their music. Their stories are filled with equal parts chaos and harmony, loss and love, satire and empathy.
The New Tarot puts the "occult" in "cult following." Their fans are encouraged to become familiar with the ever-growing mythos of the band, as those in the know will often have the opportunity to engage in bizarre rituals alongside TNT, such as collective meowing, praising the four cardinal saints of pop music, and other elaborate ceremonies. The group recently headlined Brooklyn's Knitting Factory and have repeatedly brought the house down at other major NYC venues, such as Mercury Lounge, The Bowery Electric, Rockwood Music Hall, The Slipper Room, Le Poisson Rouge, Studio@Webster Hall, The legendary Bitter End... etc. The New Tarot has had major take off in just over a year's time. Their live performances, peculiar ceremony and undeniably catchy music has landed them on the frontpage of many high-profile music blogs, including NYLON music, Consequence of Sound and Indie Shuffle.
Janna Pelle
Janna Pelle is a classically trained pianist-turned DIY Pop performer combining elements of rock, soul, and dance into her theatrical live performances. In addition to performing at NYC hotspots including The Bitter End and Pianos, Janna has shared the stage with Zach Deputy and Easy Star All Stars, and has performed across the country with her side project Michelle My Pelle at The Fest for Beatles Fans alongside the likes of Donovan and Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees. Janna is currently in the process of recording Key Change, a concept album following the chronological history of the keyboard's evolution from harpsichord to synthesizer with Producer Max Low, filming a music video for her upcoming "City Life" single with Will Schluter (Producer of David Byrne's concert film Ride, Rise, Roar), gearing up for multiple performances at the 2014 CMJ Music Marathon, and curating musical playlists as the musical director of Skipping Club, an organization that has been recognized by The New York Times and Fox.
Boy Band
Boy Band
"New York's Boy Band is the collaborative project of Ana Dratz, Jen Fischer, and HaleyJane Rose. The trip blends their unique songwriting styles to create catchy choruses with stirring harmonies and swells. After an impromptu performance at a friend's barbecue brought them together, the three began writing collaborative tunes and cutting their teeth at venues including Rockwood Music Hall and Pianos.
Their debut EP Begin is a comprehensive introduction to Boy Band's sound; contemporary pop with an appreciation for classic folk; gripping earworms weaving in and out of sprawling, hypnotic harmonies. The opening track 'Think Things Through' begins with the simple strum of an acoustic guitar before busting into a wild symphony of kazoo, glockenspiel, and tap dancing. Yes, tap dancing. 'Up From The Mud' is an empowering pop number with an inescapable chorus, the perfect soundtrack for smashing the patriarchy. Lead single 'Sorry (High & Dry)' is a big, middle-finger comeback tune that will have you humming the refrain as soon as you hear it. "
